A few weeks ago, we talked about how (and why) you should start a vlog in 2017.
You may have been surprised at all of the compelling reasons why you should jump behind the camera this year – and you may be considering starting your own vlog in 2017.
But then comes the big question – what should you vlog about?
Really, there are an infinite amount of ideas. Of course, your videos should be relevant to your business, but should also give a little behind-the-scenes look at your life.
To help you generate some awesome content ideas for your vlog, I’ll lay out five creative vloggers you should follow. Dive in and watch a few of their videos – you’ll start to spark your own content ideas in no time!
- How To Beast
The How To Beast vlog is actually run by my good friend and former business partner David De Las Morenas. What I love about his vlog is that he’s always trying new things – new video effects, content ideas, styles of vlogging, background music, etc. And so, his vlog has a lot to offer in terms of both entertainment and educational value.
The actual content is a mix of fitness/health tips, confidence tips, conversation tips (i.e. the best questions to ask a girl) and product reviews. Within the videos, he weaves in a nice cut of his walk to the gym and other small journeys.
Aside from the mix of content, he also uses a high-quality camera – the Sony RX100 V – which helps his videos stand out even more.
If you’d like an inside look at one of his vlogs, check out this video:
I actually make a guest appearance in the video as well, so you can get a sense of my vlogging chops (lol!).
- Maxx Chewning
Maxx’s vlog is also fitness related. He perhaps goes more behind-the-scenes than any other vlogger on this list.
Earlier this year, he built his own gym and vlogged the daily tasks of doing so. From buying and assembling the weights to laying the mats and more – it was the perfect vlog series for anyone who’s ever dreamed of (or been interested in) starting their own gym one day. And since his audience is so fitness related, these videos performed well.
To help accelerate his channel’s growth, he partnered with a lot of bigger YouTube vloggers. This gained him tons of recognition and allowed him to build his following much faster.
(That’s one thing you should take note of and try – what bigger YouTubers in your industry can you partner with?)
Through his vlogs, he sells his clothing fitness clothing line, Ever Forward Apparel. The clothing often sells out within days of each launch, which shows you just how much trust he’s built up with his audience.
- Hey Nadine
Nadine from Hey Nadine makes travel videos that show you the world, and gives you tips and advice about how you can do the same.
Her videos are a mix of her actual travels (like when she shows you the amazing east coast of Novia Scotia or getting shipwrecked in Halifax) and awesome travel tips (like how to make friends while traveling abroad and travel tips from the top travel experts).
She brings on other experts and influencers to continuously grow her audience and keep viewers engaged. She also uses extremely creative thumbnails for her videos, which compel people to click and keep watching.
- Jubril Agoro
Jubril is a travel blogger with a different type of style. I’d seen a few of his vlogs on Instagram and YouTube, then I eventually met him in person when we were both living in Medellin, Colombia and Playa Del Carmen, Mexico.
In his vlogs, he mixes online business lessons with behind-the-scenes footage of his world travels. He goes to places like Medellin, Colombia that many people perceive as dangerous, and he shows you the real side of the city.
You can check out his behind-the-scenes viral vlog (700k + views) below:
Aside from his YouTube, he also posts many vlogs on Facebook, with some of them going viral. You can check out his Facebook page here.
This combination of videos has given him big speaking opportunities, helped him get a full slate of clients for his Facebook ads business, and also given him free travel perks all around the world.
- Charisma on Command
I hung out with the Charisma on Command guys down in Medellin as well, as they were building up their YouTube vlog.
They were determined to crush it on YouTube and drive traffic to their flagship product about charisma. Their results since that have been spectacular, as they’ve grown to over 700K subscribers on YouTube.
What makes their vlog stand out is a mix of popular and topical topics (like Game of Thrones, the election, the Walking Dead, Conor McGregor, etc.) and advice about charisma and confidence.
They use these mainstream topics to help teach charisma, and the result is highly viral videos that people love.
- Gary Vaynerchuk
Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past few years, you’ve probably heard about Gary Vaynerchuk (AKA Gary Vee). He runs VaynerMedia, one of the world’s most popular digital agencies, and has written a few best-selling books on social media and entrepreneurship.
His vlogs are on his YouTube channel, and they’re called his “DailyVees”. He lovingly refers to the “DailyVee” as his side hustle.
What makes it unique is that it shows you the behind-the-scenes life of a big time influencer. He provides tips and strategies for businesses to crush it with social media, marketing, and other mediums. But he takes it even further and shows you business dinners & travels (like in this vlog in London), gym workouts, and more.
It shows you who Gary Vee really is – not just the exciting stuff that you see in viral articles online, but also the more mundane days (which he claims are about 85% of his days, and 85% of the days of just about everyone).
This just shows that you don’t need crazy exciting things happening all the time to create solid vlog content.
- Marie Forleo
Marie Forleo has been named by Oprah as a thought leader for the next generation. And her vlog backs that up. She has a mix of interviews with big time influencers like Elizabeth Gilbert (author of Eat, Pray, Love), vlog-style testimonials for her flagship program B-School, and also tips and strategies to improve in both business and life.
All of her videos are infused with her big personality (she’s always unapologetically herself), which makes them stand out amongst a sea of other YouTubers and vloggers.
Conclusion
2017 is the year you should start your awesome vlog. But as you do so, you should learn from the best – and there’s no better place to start than with these 7 vloggers. So, check out some of their videos and start getting new content ideas today!
